Your Wellbeing Matters: What can we take away from Mental Health Awareness Week?

We’re just out of Mental Health Awareness Week and whilst it’s been a timely reminder to pause and ask ourselves: How am I really doing? It’s also a reminder that mental health self-care matters all year round.

For those of you who have read our latest book, (and for those who have yet to), Chapter 99 was the moment we turned our attention to our readers and focused in on the importance of developing a sense of self-care in the pursuit of managing your own wellbeing and energy.

In this increasingly crazy world, where we’re constantly bombarded by overwhelming news, eco-anxiety, and the pressures of work and life, taking care of our mental health isn’t just important - it’s essential - yet so many of us still don’t take enough time to take care of ourselves. Afterall - if we don’t look after ourselves, how can we show up fully for others?

In our book, we refer to The Preventative Healthcare Service, or PHS for short – a CIC, we founded back in 2016.  You can find out more about the PHS here – why it was brought about and its intention. The short story is that it’s a collective resource, supporting mental health and wellbeing for all.

Here’s some key takeaways from Chapter 99, which focused on personal wellbeing to help you start (or continue) your self-care journey:

1.     Acknowledge the weight of eco-anxiety and stress

It’s normal to feel overwhelmed by global challenges, especially in sustainability and marketing. Recognising these emotions—rather than ignoring them—is the first step toward managing them.

2.     Small changes make a big difference

You don’t need a complete lifestyle overhaul. Drinking more water, moving daily, or practicing deep breathing can significantly impact how you feel. Simple = sustainable and the PHS Stress Management Program supports you every step of the way in learning about how little shifts, collectively make a big difference.

3.     Prioritise connection with yourself and others

Isolation worsens stress. Whether it’s talking to a friend, joining a community, or simply unplugging from screens, human connection is a powerful wellbeing tool.

4.     Track your progress

Self-awareness is key. Assess different areas of your life from sleep and nutrition to movement and mindset and notice any improvements over time. In the Program we invite people to complete our Wellbeing Wheel at the outset, so they can see where they are right now – and then to complete it again, at the end of the 6 weeks/modules. From all our trials and programs delivered with teams and cohorts with GP practices, the shifts have been incredible to witness. Going back to point 2, - small changes really do make a difference.
